Brilliant gold Nose: Peat-smoke with sea-water saltiness, the liquor of fresh oysters, a citrus sweetness Palate: A rich dried-fruit sweetness with clouds of smoke and strong barley-malt flavors, warming and intense. At the back of the mouth is an explosion of pepper Finish: Huge, long, peppery finish with an appetizing sweetness While not as overtly peat-heavy as an Islay malt, Talisker’s peat provides a background of earthiness that matches its rocky flavors. As this is one of the more complex of whiskies, it may take some getting used to. Once you can appreciate it, though, nothing beats Talisker for relief at the end of a hard day.
