Smooth Ambler Old Scout Single Barrel Rye Aged 4 Years 55.5%ABV

Cask Strength BARREL NUMBER 16788 Nose: Considering the proof, I expected more ethanol on the nose. Instead, I’m met with delicious sweet aromas. Maple Nut Goodies (candy) come to mind. When you dig a little deeper, some botanical qualities begin to surface - mint, perhaps. Really nice and welcoming nose on this young but potent MGP rye. Palate: I won’t bother being discreet here - this one is HOT! Once the initial burn passes, some of those favored MGP rye qualities begin to emerge. The mouthfeel is just oily enough and notes of caramel, spice, and mint shine through. Maybe some mild dill, but it’s not prevalent as in older stock.
