When you go out for a round or two of cocktails with your friends, what drink do you order? Is it one of those sticky-sweet faux martini drinks that bartenders hate making? Or do you choose the dull-as-dishwater option of rum and cola? Stop! There are way better options you’re missing out on. Give some of these splendid drinks a try and find a new favorite for the next time you go out on the town.

1. Gin & Tonic
The gin & tonic is a classic drink for a reason. It’s refreshing. It’s classy. And it’s absolutely enjoyable. It might just be the most perfect drink ever. Unless you are looking for a lower calorie drink. If so, try ordering it with diet tonic water or club soda instead and you’ll turn it into a refreshingly healthy option.

2. Sidecar
Some people love a good sweet-tasting drink. The taste of alcohol can be off-putting for some palates. The Sidecar is an ideal option for you if you like a sweet drink. Order an amaretto sour and the bartender is likely to chuckle at you while he’s got his back turned. Order a Sidecar and you’re all class. Cognac, triple sec, lemon juice and Grand Marnier get shaken together with ice and poured into a glass for your drinking pleasure.

3. Martini
The original martini will always be the quintessential drink. It’s traditionally made with gin and vermouth with a garnish of green olives or a lemon twist. But over the years, it’s been bastardized into all sorts of abominations like the insufferable appletini. Try a real martini and you’ll see why it’s ridiculous to mess with a true icon.

4. Michelada
Few people are aware of this fantastic traditional Mexican drink. After all, you go out for Mexican food and you’ve got margaritas all over the drink menu. But the Michelada is a fun and lively drink that will go great with your enchiladas. It’s a bit spicy in the most delightful way, a twist on the Bloody Mary with beer, tomato juice and lime juice. Then it’s given a few drops of Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce and hot sauce. You’ll like it like that!

5. Negroni
Want something strong? Try this bellisimo gift from Italy. It’s filled with Campari, gin and red vermouth. A few of these will render you quite tipsy.

6. Old Fashioned
With a name like this, it’s got to be timeless. This oldie but goodie is served in an old fashioned glass (hence the name) and starts off with the muddling of sugar and bitters. Whiskey and a twist of lemon complete this glass of class. Now that you know what to order, go out and have some fun!

Or make it in your own home. However you choose to imbibe, please be sure to do so responsibly.
